archer [emiya shirou] x reader

It didn’t fit.

For a moment, you have to take a step back and wonder where on earth you’ve gone wrong with this. Surely, you’ve taken all the right measurements - even a quarter of an inch off and you’d be butchering the whole ensemble away - but why couldn’t it fit like you wanted it to?

Then it hit you; of course-

Archer was just too beefy.

The aforementioned seemed to share your sentiment. The dark suit, fitted along with the black slacks and a pair of polished leather boots to complete the arrangement, hugged his figure a little too tight for comfort. It was neat, yes, and it was perfect for the formal occasion they were going to attend, but why oh why wouldn’t it fit on his body like it was supposed to?

Never mind that he had completely dismissed the fact that you were just that bad a tailor. He could never tell that to your face.

“...It didn’t fit again, did it?” you asked, even though the answer was clear as day on the way he fidgeted in front of the mirror. Even you could see that; the hard bumps and valleys forming his muscles showed a little too much even through the fancy, velvety material, and you were sure you wouldn’t be the only one drooling if you let him go with that kind of suit.

He grunted; what else could he say? The suit was practically choking his air passageways, and if you hadn’t reacted faster, he would’ve turned blue in the face. But you quickly slipped the suit off him, then eased the silky white shirt underneath to reveal tanned, muscly torso. The pants didn’t need to come off, it was already a good fit - if you have to take that off, you weren’t sure if you could hold yourself back.

“I’m sorry,” you said, guilt plastered all over your features. Really, how could a fail of a significant other like you deserve to be with someone like him? He probably needed a person who could actually cook decent food and sew perfectly, not a mess of a tragedy that was you. “I’ll try to finish this by tomorrow. The shirt, too. Oh, and do you want dinner?”

Archer hadn’t said a word since the whole ordeal, but he could see the look on your face as you stood back, gaze on anywhere but him. Maybe because of the fact that he was naked from the waist up, but he knew you were also holding back all those self loathing thoughts, never letting him into them.

Though, he still chose you all the same, and he didn't regret it one bit.

“How about if we go out tonight?” he said, the gruffness never leaving his voice, though the edges were hinted with gentleness. “You don’t need to tire yourself out; you’ve been at the sewing machine for a week now, haven’t you?”

You bite back a remark, a blush adorning your face. Sure, you tried to keep him from finding out about it; with your working room being next to his office, it was hard work trying to keep all the noises down, but you’ve been at it relentlessly, wanting to prove to him that you could do this by yourself. Though, between the both of you, you know who was the superior one in housework handling.

“What? But-” you sputtered, protests lodging themselves at the back of your throat; you have a suit to fix and other housework to attend to, after all. “But, I need to- this is- we don’t have a lot of time-”

“Just tonight.” His tone had taken a gentler ring, now; it made you subconsciously lean into him, enamored by the sound. “Okay? I’ll help you with everything else tomorrow, but there’s no need to work yourself out like this, alright? We got a whole week before the party, anyway.”

Your lips thinned into a line, wanting to disagree with him. “But, Shirou, I-”

“I won’t divorce you just because you can’t fix a suit, [Name]. It’s fine.”

For a second, you froze. Then, you flung yourself into his arms like a cannonball, tears flooding your vision as you clung onto his form.

You were lucky enough to have a husband as understanding as him.

Even though he knew how much of failure of a wife you were.
